What I did in Divertifica for their rework of ONCE’s Entreno mobile app
I tested an app for users with sight and hearing impairments, so I focused on more than bugs. I also looked for usability and accessibility issues to make the experience welcoming and useful for the target audience.
This is a list of the most important things I did during this project:
- I tested the app with accessibility in mind, ensuring iPhone’s VoiceOver worked correctly throughout the game. I played each minigame, which trained skills like memory, hearing, logic, and reflexes, as a target user would, sometimes even with my eyes closed or my ears covered. This helped me identify several critical issues, including missing vibration, short reaction-time windows, and unclear instructions in several minigames, among others.
- I reported bugs using GitHub Issues for the code team to fix and tracked them to see whether they have solved them in later versions. I provided as many details as possible to replicate the bugs, along with screen recordings or screenshots, so the team could act quickly and resolve issues faster.
- I participated in user tests with real users from ONCE with hearing and sight impairment. This helped me understand the app's and minigames' weak points, which I used to inform the design and code team and improve the app, especially menu navigation.
Final Results
We published the new version of the app on both Google Play and the App Store. Thanks to the reported insights, design notes, and bug fixes, the app became more accessible and helped users build some of the most important skills for the target user demographic.
